This year, polymer producer Covestro LLC received its second consecutive Product Safety Award from the American Chemistry Council (ACC). The award is given in recognition of organizations that continually improve product safety and stewardship programs. In Covestro’s case, it recognizes the company’s work with the US Green Building Council. Together, the two organizations piloted a new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credit.

During Covestro’s participation, it submitted three of its products for evaluation and verification of ingredients by an external auditor. After an exhaustive evaluation process, Covestro received LEED credit for all three products. The company credits its adherence to the ACC’s Responsible Care Product Safety Code for its success. All ACC awards are decided by a panel consisting of both internal and external specialists, and exemplary performance is required to qualify companies for an award. Only two companies qualified for awards this year.

Covestro’ high-performance polymers are used in the automotive, electrical and electronics sectors as well as the medical and sports and leisure industries.
