Netherlands global-science company Royal DSM has added a new silk-feel resin, Silky UV, to its family of resin products designed to add a soft touch to packaging.

According to the company, although the ability of the existing soft feel resins in the Skins Silky family to resist chemicals and abrasion make them suitable for use on a wide range of materials, including various plastics, papers and cardboards, the new addition to the Skins Silky family of the AgiSyn 248 will widen the range of end-user applications still further.

DSM said that when combined with a matting agent and cured by ultraviolet light, the new low viscosity water-based resin applies a silky feel to screen overprint and flexographic varnishes which is generated within the structure of the resin itself, and not achieved through the use of additives.
