New Adhesive Cartridges Address Common Problems

3M’s Scotch-Weld cartridges have recently undergone changes that target waste reduction, improve dispensing and mixing, and reduce the chance of leaks. The improved cartridge design features a cap that’s designed to prevent the accidental bonding of cap to cartridge while still preventing the cartridge’s contents from drying out.

Meanwhile, the dispensing outlet has been improved for enhanced adhesive flow and precise mixing during application. A sealing flange which locks the pistons makes the cartridges acceptable as air cargo. The piston-sealing system has been further improved to distribute pressure evenly during application, reducing leakage and waste by replacing the previous O-ring with a double-lip seal.

The cartridges are produced in 48.5ml and 50ml sizes for the 1:1 and 2:1 Scotch-Weld adhesive systems. Despite the investment in the development of the improved packaging, the cost of Scotch-Weld adhesives will remain unchanged. While the manual applicator will work well with the 48.5ml cartridge, the 50ml 2:1 cartridge is for use with a pneumatic applicator.
