3M has developed spray adhesive that can reduce both the time and cost of seaming geotextile fabrics. The 3M Geotextile Seaming Cylinder Spray Adhesive dries quickly to create a strong, permanent bond in 56% less time than sewing. Creating a seam is straightforward: the adhesive is sprayed on both of the surfaces to be bonded, the surfaces are joined, and pressure is applied to the seam. 3M’s spray adhesive is packaged in a pressurized container, which removes the need for sewing machines, generators, other equipment, and equipment-related maintenance. In addition, this adhesive may only require an overlap of 6”, rather than the 24” overlap needed by other seaming methods. 3M Geotextile Spray Adhesive can be used for a variety of purposes, including erosions prevention and subgrade stabilization, and is suitable for many common fabrics used in the construction industry. The bond created using 3M geotextile adhesive meets seam efficiency requirements set by American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) M288-06.
