Henkel Canada Corporation, partnered with TerraCycle Inc, Henkel Canada Corporation, partnered with TerraCycle Inc, is taking the product package recycling program launched in the U.S. in 2016 across the US into Canada.

By doing so, the Canadian subsidiary of German Henkel AG and Company, KGaA will add washing powder pouches to the active adhesive packaging recycling program already being carried out in the US. The company has said it’s detergent packaging will be totally recyclable, compostable, and reusable by 2025, and the end aim is to melt them down into hard plastic for remolding into other products.

Similarly, the US program centred on the development of a process aimed at deactivating and removing the adhesives used in Henkel adhesives packages and melting down the resulting material which was then made into pellets for re-use in items such as trash cans and benches.

Henkel Canada also plans incentives for consumers to recycle the pouches, including a reward system of TerraCycle points redeemable for charity gifts or as cash donations to schools or charities. Prepaid shipping packages will also enable consumers to return empty packaging to the company for recycling.
