Foam Adhesive Tapes Used in Place of Mechanical Fasteners in Critical Applications

VHB soft foam-centred tapes may have been around for 40+ years, but the adhesive tapes have been adapting along with changes in technology, materials, manufacturing and assembly as the decades have passed. VHB tapes are used in place of mechanical fasteners like screws, rivets and welds in many industries due to their positive benefits.

The VHB tape sandwich of foam, covered on both sides by high strength adhesives, is proving particularly suitable for use on thinner and lighter materials because of its uniform stress distribution.  This lessens the likelihood of splitting, crazing or distortion at the area of use, and because no holes need to be drilled, it may also reduce the chance of corrosion, particularly on metal. It also does not require any finishing work.

Suitable for use on many different substrates including metals, plastics and painted materials, the VHB tape is widely used in the signage, construction, transportation, appliance, electronics and metal fabrication industries.
