Several recent forecasts are showing a 65% rise in the global aerospace plastics market share from $45 million in 2018 to $75 million by 2025 with adhesives manufacturers, which supply the assembly lines, offering advanced bonding solutions to this fast growing market.

Increases in aircraft deliveries, the modernization of existing fleets, as well as efforts to improve efficiency, all point to the already increasing demand for plastic components continuing to grow. As do changes and development in aircraft manufacture, like 3D printing using plastics, which also brings down weight and production time. Plastic also fits the bill in terms of lower maintenance requirements and longer service life.

Weight reduction of aircraft is one of the most economically advantageous areas in which plastics can contribute to the aerospace industry. Every pound that is saved reduces the aircraft’s operating costs, and also cuts the cost of production. Using fibre-reinforced plastics and so-called sandwich components, and the lightweight adhesives which enable these components to be bonded to a variety of substrates, allows for extremely lightweight design.
