The American Chemistry Council has formed the new Biobased Chemistry Network to educate policymakers and foster effective and practical regulatory programs for the biobased chemistry industry. The biobased chemical industry generates sales of $13.5 billion to $20 billion, and about 20% of that is US sales. Biobased chemicals have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, volatile organic compound emissions, and energy needs. Emily Tipaldo, Director of Regulatory and Technical Affairs, noted, “ACC Member companies are at the forefront of converting natural resources into a wide range of innovative products that consumers value, that make modern life possible, and that help to deliver a more sustainable future. The Biobased Network allows members to work together on creating an environment that will help foster and develop this dynamic segment of our industry.” The Biobased Chemistry Network currently has 19 member companies that will advocate for biobased chemistry.
