ASTM International Standard D7447-08 & Standardized Adhesive CAD Symbol (free plug-in)
Individuals can download a free, executable plug-in of the symbol and use it in several versions of AutoCAD® and Autodesk® Revit®. The symbol is also included in the latest version of TurboCAD®. Project Background
The ASC initiated the adhesive CAD symbol project in response to focus group feedback received from the engineering, architecture and design communities. It was discovered that ‘end-users’ desired a way to graphically represent an adhesive in a CAD drawing. Therefore, the ASC approached ASTM International with the idea of creating a new global standard and symbol. The new standard resulted from ASC’s efforts with ASTM's D14 Adhesives Committee, specifically the D14.60 subcommittee, which manages the Adhesive Material Classification System.
ASTM International Standard D7447-08
An adhesive symbol provides an efficient means of placing complete information about adhesives on engineering drawings (see illustrations below). This ASTM standard provides design, fabrication or other reference material to assist the designer/engineer in successfully adding a specific adhesive to a design. Designers, engineers, architects and other individuals preparing CAD drawings benefit from the use of ASTM D7447-08 Standard Practice for Symbolizing Adhesive Applications in two important ways. Using an electronic adhesive CAD symbol saves users’ time, while allowing more specific adhesives information to be included on the actual CAD drawings.
NOTE: Purchasing the international standard ASTM D7447-08 is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED prior to downloading any of the Adhesive CAD Symbol plug-ins.
